Alamo Colleges District Family,

In the midst of a worldwide pandemic and international protests advocating for Black lives, our U.S. Supreme Court has affirmed what so many of us have believed, that companies can’t and shouldn’t discriminate against LGBTQ individuals in the workplace. The Alamo Colleges District and our family of colleges - Northeast Lakeview College, Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip’s College and San Antonio College, express our support of the Supreme Court’s landmark decision providing necessary protections for the LGBTQ community.

In 2014 and again in 2016, the Alamo Colleges leadership voted and approved explicit policies supporting and protecting our LGBTQ community. Through our Equal Employment and Education statements, we reaffirmed our commitment to prohibit discrimination in any form against students and employees of the Alamo Colleges. For more than 75 years, the Alamo Colleges District has made it our mission to focus on students and empower our diverse communities for success. This week’s decision only mirrors what we have been practicing for years and hold as a core value—Respect for All.

While this decision provides more equitable support for the LGBTQ community, our work is not finished. Our nation and state have much to do to dismantle both legal and cultural systems of discrimination.

We will continue to urge our elected officials to enact laws and policies that protect the LGBTQ community.

In Service,

Marcelo Casillas, Chair of the Alamo Colleges
